Eight more trees will be removed from Barnstaple’s Castle Mound next week.
As well as removing the sycamores, North Devon Council will prune other trees overhanging the Cattle Market car park.
Councillor Derrick Spear, executive member for parks, leisure and culture, said: “Our parks team keeps a close eye on the health of the trees on Castle Mound, because it’s such an important feature of the town’s history.
“The mound is all we have left of the 12th century castle that once stood there, looking down on the town. As well as looking after the monument, we also need to make sure the area is safe.”
Work is due to begin on Tuesday.
