People involved in forest and woodland management are invited to sign up for a course during the autumn of 2014 that explores the principles of forest landscape design

The course will provide an appreciation and understanding of Scotland’s diverse landscapes and what can make them sensitive to change, and will illustrate how design principles can help integrate forests into those landscapes.

Nicholas Shepherd, Landscape and Culture Adviser with Forestry Commission Scotland, who will run the informal two-day courses, said:

“Although we are ‘classroom based’ we’re aiming for an enjoyable, ‘test-free’ experience that is suitable for all levels of ability.

“Through a mix of presentations and group exercises, we’ve set out to help people explore the underpinning principles of forest landscape design and how to apply those principles to enhance the local landscape.

“We expect that everyone who takes part will be able to make use of their new found knowledge when preparing and reviewing forest management plans.”

Subject to demand, it is intended to run the courses at locations throughout Scotland between September and November 2014.

There will be a non-refundable registration fee of £40 as a contribution towards the costs of setting up the courses.

Anyone who would like to register their interest in attending one of these courses or who would like further information about the course should contact Nicholas by email atnicholas.shepherd@forestry.gsi.gov.uk
