The charity FACE (Farming and Countryside Education) have received a welcome donation from one of their newest supporters this year. British Hardwood Tree Nursery of Lincolnshire donated a penny a plant from online sales throughout its’ 25th anniversary season. A cheque for £650 was presented on Friday 11 September to Janet Hickinbottom, FACE National Education Officer at the charity’s Headquarters in the National Agriculture and Exhibition Centre in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
The donations, funded from sales of hedging plants made online at its sister site www.treesandhedging.co.uk, amassed throughout this year’s bare-root season which ended in April. Presenting the cheque on behalf of British Hardwood Trees, Zoe Henderson said they had selected the charity as a ‘perfect fit’ to celebrate the company’s milestone earlier this year. “We wanted to work with a like-minded charity to celebrate our 25th season supplying plants across the UK. We chose FACE as they shared our support of UK farming, countryside and farming communities from the ground up – and that means children and young people.”
Janet Hickinbottom said: “We were thrilled when British Hardwood Trees contacted us to propose we become their Charity Partner in their anniversary season. Our charity thrives on funds from our corporate and private partners and we’re so happy that this donation came from sales of young plants that are now growing in gardens, hedgerows and land across the UK countryside. Thank you!”
FACE works with its members and partners to promote visits to farms, and to provide easy access to a wide range of high-quality educational resources and activities to complement both school-based studies and outdoor visits. FACE believes that all children should have access to the countryside, regardless of where they live, cultural group or economic background. They need to be prepared as leaders and consumers of a future in which over 9 billion people will need to be fed.
FACE provides a one-stop enquiry service, extensive curriculum resources, support from their team of Regional Education Co-ordinators, links with farmers and the rural industries, workshops and seminars for teachers and farmers.
