A tree subject to a Tree Preservation Order is being felled in Soham.

Removal of the Wellingtonia tree at a property in Red House Gardens is due to start on Wednesday, January 21.

East Cambridgeshire District Council says that the tree lost a large branch last year, that some remaining branches had cracks and that as a result it needed to be axed for safety reasons.

A council spokesman said: “The Wellingtonia will take a week to be removed due to its size.

“During this time, local residents are advised that there may be some temporary closures of a footpath in the area.
