Coed Y Morfa Community Woodland, Prestatyn, has achieved the Green Flag Community Award 2014/15.

The Green Flag Community Award is administered by Tidy Towns and recognises and rewards the best community managed green spaces in the country as well as driving up the quality of green space.

Cllr Hugh Irving, DCC’s Lead Member for Customers and Communities said: “I am delighted with this excellent example of the Local Authority working closer to the community to deliver what local people actually want. It has become increasingly obvious that practical conservation work is an excellent focus for volunteer participation and to nurture community involvement and pride.

“The award is all the more remarkable in that the 36 acre site is situated on a former tip with challenging conditions in which to establish a woodland. This though has most definitely been achieved with the creation of an important Green Open Space strategically located in the heart of Prestatyn.”

Frank Bailey, Chair of the Prestatyn Environmental Association says that the group are very proud of their achievement and that prestigious awards such as this help to raise a positive profile for both the woodland and the excellent work carried out by the Environmental Group.

The group are also currently working with Denbighshire Countryside Service on what would be a very exciting project for the town.
