The Arboricultural Association has been working with the Trustees and staff at head office to enlarge the team of dedicated and hardworking gentlefolk operating at The Malthouse, with recruitment for both technical and administrative staff.

In addition to the recent addition of our Marketing and Communications Manager Chris Martin and Jason Ward, our Webmaster, who both work part time for the Association, we have now taken on two new full-time staff.

Simon Cox, Technical Officer

We are delighted to welcome Simon Cox to the Association as our new Technical Officer. Simon will work full time, based at The Malthouse, joining the technical team comprising myself as Senior Technical Officer and Paul Smith, Manager of the ARB Approved Contractor and the AA Registered Consultant accreditation schemes.

Simon C (as he is known!) has a wealth of experience and technical qualifications across a number of disciplines in the industry. He comes from a large national land-based contracting company where he headed up the arb team, gaining them ArbAC status. We look forward to him contributing to a wide range of training and technical projects, and no doubt you will meet him at an event near you in the coming months!

The role of Technical Officer is key to the ongoing success of the Association, the ArbAC scheme and the provision of appropriate professional training to members. Simon C will be undergoing some induction training and working with the existing Technical Officer team to fully understand the details of the new role; his core duties will include:

  • Providing technical advice to members
  • Supporting the development of existing and new training courses
  • Exploring the options for new training opportunities
  • Delivering training within relevant skill areas
  • Supporting the ArbAC scheme, including contractor assessments and pre-assessment workshops
  • Representing the Association at AA events, meetings and external events

Laura Joule, Administration Assistant

We are also very pleased to welcome Laura Joule, who joined us in April as Administration Assistant on an initial six-month contract. As well as administrative skills, Laura also holds relevant arboricultural and environmental qualifications and experience, so she is very well placed to work with our industry sector. She is already proving her worth and has risen to the many and varied challenges offered to her!

Please join me in welcoming Simon C and Laura to the Association’s Head Office team.
