Tree Micro-Injection
Syngenta has developed a new and effective plant protection product and a new process of injecting it systemically into trees called Tree Micro-injection (TMI). The new product targets a variety
of pests, including Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) and Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner (HCLM). The system is completely closed, ensuring there is no environmental or operator exposure to the product
and it uses bio-degradable valve plugs. The demonstration is being done under an ‘experimental licence’ issued by the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) and will involve treating some chestnuts and leaving others as controls.
Arborcheck Nursery Benchmark System
Barcham Trees and Norfolk-based Hansatech Instruments Limited have joined forces to produce the Arborcheck Nursery Benchmark System. The Arborcheck system measures chlorophyll fluorescence emissions from the leaves of a tree and compares the measured values with the benchmarks for the same genus, species or cultivar. This tool provides tree care professionals with an independant standard and early warning system long before visual signs of ill health are noticed. This is an opportunity to be among the first to see these new developments in action.
