Environmental and ecological land management company Microsite has planted 7,500 trees as part of a transformative woodland creation project in north-east London.
Located in Emmaus Youth Village in Consett, the project has been supported with a grant from the government's Trees for Climate fund, administered by North East Community Forest.
Developed to promote biodiversity, education and community wellbeing, the project also acts as a flagship for future local environmental efforts.
Contracted to establish the planting scheme, Microsite worked with a concept created by Southern Green Landscape Architects.
Peter Holder, chief executive of Microsite comments on the woodland creation project:
"The new community woodland, orchard and wildflower meadows are designed to maximise the ecological, social and economic value of this important community land asset at Emmaus Youth Village."
Featuring a new community orchard, native broadleaf woodland, open space habitat, wildflower meadows, shelter belts, in-field trees and ponds.
On a mission to increase native woodland coverage and connecting people with nature, Microsite is focussing on ecological approaches and long-term planning for the benefit of future generations.
