A Magnolia tree now stands tall on the highest point of Canary Wharf’s Crossrail station to mark the beginning of a new roof garden on the seven-storey site.
The greenery was lifted by crane through the semi open air timber lattice roof of the Canary Wharf Group building, designed by architects Foster + Partners.
It will be the first of many plants to adorn the rooftop garden, with the varieties of blooms specifically selected by Gillespies landscape architects to link to the heritage of the Docklands, where collectors historically brought exotic species into the UK for the first time.
The Crossrail station will open its retail and leisure facilities next year, with train services running from 2018.
