Green-fingered Horsforth youngsters helped plant elm tree saplings as part of a national initiative to reintroduce one of England’s most important trees.
Pupils from Horsforth Westbrook Lane Primary School were joined by officers from Leeds City Council’s parks department and members of Horsforth Cricket Club to plant elms in the school grounds and on King George’s field.
The aim of the The Great British Elm Experiment, run by national charity the Conservation Foundation, is to establish a set of disease resistant elm trees.
Horsforth Cricket Club donated cash for the trees and Leeds City Council provided expertise and staff to help the project.
