Först, a leading supplier of high performance and robust woodchippers, has launched the XR8 Traxion, a brand new machine developed specifically for rail contractors and arborists that need to tackle embankments and difficult terrains.
The XR8 Traxion is a fast, powerful and exceptionally versatile 8” x 10” capacity woodchipper that has been designed to traverse banks and slopes up to 35 degrees with ease. It features a parallel linkage leg system that allows users to expand and retract legs independently for safe and stable tracking on the bankside, as well as class leading ground clearance (height of 695mm when fully expanded) to negotiate difficult obstacles.

Powered by a 50HP, 4-cylinder Kubota diesel engine, the new XR8 Traxion produces lots of low down torque to power the large Först flywheel. The engine also drives the hydraulic pump directly through the engines power take off (PTO), which means all the torque is transferred directly to the tracks.
Other key benefits include Först’s unique feedroller system (FörstGrip), which ensures exceptional crushing power. The FörstGrip top feed roller climbs on an arc toward the timber, pulling material down toward the flywheel and naturally climbing butt ends to make the infeed grip exceptional to break the toughest of forks and limbs. The machine also features an ‘AutoIntelligence’ control system for simple usability and operation, which is completely water and vibration proof to protect the electronics.
