Entries now open for ‘Great Trees of Sheffield’ contest

Entries are now open into the ‘Great Trees of Sheffield’ contest. Tree Hunter and one of the judges for the contest, Rob McBride, is asking for your nominations.

“This fun competition is for anyone who has, or knows of any very special tree(s) that have a great story attached to them. The contest is aiming to bring some ‘positivitree’ to the inhabitants of Sheffield.” Says Rob.

Trees can be: individual trees; groups of trees; avenues of trees; trees in parks in the city; woodland trees and of course Street trees.

Trees must be within the boundaries of Sheffield, and privately owned trees must have the owner’s consent to be nominated.

The closing date for any nominations is 1 May. Judging will then take place in early June. The overall winner will be announced shortly after this and presented with a trophy kindly donated by Hartey Wealth Management. Gift vouchers will be given to 2nd and 3rd placed nominators.

Among the judges are former Pulp band members, Jarvis Cocker; Nick Banks; Richard Hawley. Also Sheffield MP Nick Clegg; TV presenter Chris Packham; horticulturalist & TV personality Christine Walkden; Guardain journalist Patrick Barkham; along with Sheffield Trees Action Group (STAG) members Helen McIllroy and Dave Dilner and tree experts Sean Harding & Jeremy Barrell and Tree Hunter, Rob McBride.
