Two leading Deeside forestry companies are joining forces to provide a comprehensive range of woodland services from their new office.

Chartered forester, Andrew Nicol, who runs the timber marketing co-op, DWP Harvesting, is linking up with RTS Forestry.

RTS Forestry are moving from Aboyne to Mr Nicol’s custom built timber offices at Deeside Activity Park, where senior woodland manager, Mike Thomson, and forestry manager, John Moran, will be based.

More than 40 estates are members of DWP, which markets around 35,000 tonnes of timber a year from 12,000 hectares.

The company supplies woodfuel for the biomass plants at Aboyne Academy and bakery ingredient manufacturers, Macphie of Glenbervie.

Mr Nicol said: “Working with RTS will not only give DWP Harvesting members access to a bigger range of services, it will also provide us with an excellent base to expand membership.”

The two companies will provide timber growers with a range of woodland services.

RTS forestry director, Harry Wilson, said the strategy was to build on local contacts and established services already provided by Mr Nicol.

Mr Wilson said: ”RTS introduces a broader range of resources to provide a full turnkey woodland service portfolio.

‘‘This helps North-east woodland owners obtain the best returns and ensure their long term sustainability.”
