Countryfile presenter Ellie Henderson spent the day with schoolchildren visiting Westonbirt Arboretum.
The day which was organised by Chalford Hill Primary School, England’s first ‘Outdoor School’, was held to present schools in the area with the highly valued ‘Outdoor Schools Award’.
Chalford Hill is pioneering a programme first developed in west Wales by leading the promotion of outdoor learning in Gloucestershire.
Ellie, from Horsley, presents the BBC TV programme which airs on Sunday evenings.
Over the past two years, the Woodland Trust has been filming pupils at Chalford Hill to capture the positive impact outdoor learning can have both on academic achievement and personal and social development.
The school’s staff has been delighted with responses from local schools which attended their training day last September.
Another training event is scheduled to be held in the Spring term.
