A north Leeds councillor has appealed to landowners to plant more trees in a bid to boost woodland in the area.
Coun. Matthew Robinson (Con, Harewood) has written to farmers, landowners and golf clubs across the ward to ask if they have land for planting. It follows a successful appeal last year where a number of farmers, including Mike Johnson (pictured) of Holly Well Farm in Collingham.
Leeds City Council is part of the White Rose Forest Partnership which supports those looking to plant trees in the region. Coun Robinson told the YEP: “Trees are a vital part of our natural landscape, providing shelter for wildlife and stock, reducing surface water run off, stronger and more attractive boundaries, as well as a secure source of woodfuel.
“I hope a number of people will come forward and take part in the initiative.”
