Changes that could provide better protection for ancient woodland from development have been proposed following a Government review of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Loopholes in planning policy have threatened England’s ancient woodland for a long time, but new wording put forward by the Government could result in fewer threats to trees.
To show that the public agrees with the changes, the Woodland Trust are asking for the public to have their say, using their simple form online.
The Woodland Trust could be focusing on defending England’s ancients from major infrastructure like HS2 instead of from car parks, luxury houses and swimming pools.
A consultation is open until 10 May. You can find out more and show your support via the Woodland Trust.
